President Obama: Just say NO to Keystone XL

I hope that President Barack Obama sees this tweet from @PoppaWillie, thinks about it hard and fast, THEN says NO to the Keystone XL Pipeline.

Congress Moves to Fast Track TPP, Threatening Human Health and Environment

More info on Fast Track and the TPP -- very undemocratic legislation and as for the Trans-Pacific Partnership Trade Deal it is NOT a good deal for most Americans. We will bleed more jobs and flush our trade deficit deeper down the toilet. WHY is Barack Obama supporting it?!!?? Call 202-456-1111 to complain -- and call your Congressmembers. As Ed Schultz of @WeGotEd said, "Not a single trade deal in the last 40 years has benefitted US workers."

Make the TPP Public and DON'T Fast-Track it!

Sign the Letter to the Congress members and the President which FREE PRESS Action Fund is co-sponsoring with RootsAction.

These are MY comments:

As a constituent, I urge you to make the text of the Trans-Pacific Partnership public and to block any proposal for fast-track authorization. If they Fast-Track it, please commit to voting NO, no matter how the corporate toadies whip you.

We need protections for our US citizens, for our internet and online activities AND we need to have our US jobs protected AND our environment protected AND our FOOD protected: NO GMOs.

Sounds like you should be SAY NO to the TPP and stick up for We the People and NOT just corporations.

BOTTOM LINE: We need FAIR trade, NOT "free" trade AND we NEED an economy that works for ALL of us.

THANK YOU for keeping me apprised of your position on the TPP.

                                               ###
End of my comments: ACT, too, NOW. PLEASE. THANKS

Van Jones Reacts to Keystone XL Report

MUST WATCH -- "The Obama Tar Sands Pipeline should not be the legacy of a President who gave that speech," says Van Jones. Canadians have blocked the dirty corrosive tar sands route west. A Canadian company wants to threaten US environment offering a few temporary jobs so they can sell the oil to China. Meanwhile the State Dept. lies about the possible impact. This is so wrong!! ~ h/t to Toni DiPego of Proligarchy.com blog for link.

President Obama: Ditch the Keystone XL Pipeline

Join me in writing the President to say NO to the Keystone XL Pipeline. Call him at 202-456-1111 AND Write him at http://www.whitehouse.gov/contact.

Learn more at http://www.tarsandsaction.org/ BUT this is what I wrote:

Truly green CLEAN energy (NOT coal which is NOT clean nor green as it damages the environment) must be the focus -- NOT the Keystone XL pipeline which is an environmental disaster. Dirty heavy oil whose pipeline could leak and whose building would destroy forests and threaten CLEAN water could mean "GAME OVER", says one leading environmentalist. PLEASE REMEMBER YOUR PROMISES. Say NO to the Keystone Pipeline!!!

We need GREEN jobs, not LIFE-DESTROYING jobs. Please put the emphasis on truly green energy.

Please keep me apprised.

Most sincerely,
Kate Anne

THANKS!!

#611NoNukes Demos this Past Saturday

On the third month anniversary of the Fukushima disaster this past Saturday June 11, 2011, people were out in the streets demonstrating. Narrated in English this video was found thanks to the #611nonukes tag on Twitter. On BlueRootsRadio.com, ToniD posted one shown on BoingBoing with too many pronuke comments saying nuke plants are safe and clean energy (WTF): http://tinyurl.com/3s6b7x7 -- According to the narrator Chie Matsumoto from LaborNetTV Japan, there were 129 demos in Japan and 11 countries on Saturday. This video is entitled 6.11脱原発・新宿デモ(2ヶ国語版)

The Majestic Plastic Bag - A Mockumentary

Hope you like me are mostly using re-useable bags instead of plastic bags. This beautifully done four minute video mockumentary tells a lot, providing much impetus for reducing, reusing, and recyling. Found it thanks to the Wondering Rose blog, where I had landed thanks to author Anne Rice and the saintly Sister Margaret McBride [more on them in another blog post, most likely].

Do you know how many plastic bags are used each year just in California? 19 billion. That’s Nineteen BILLION! Of which only about 5% are recycled. Most of the bags, like the plastic bottles (which I wrote about in my earth day post on April 22 2010) end up in the Great Pacific Garbage patch ~~ Roseanne Freed, Wondering Rose

Just looked at Rose / Roseanne's bottle post -- gotta redouble my effort on NOT using plastic bottles, too. Join us!

BP Slick: CREEKKEEPER appears on Olbermann

John L. Wathen and his videos of the ravaged Gulf, including affected wildlife, brought me to tears as I watched the podcast of Keith Olbermann's Countdown. Heavy stuff that must be seen and acted upon. PLEASE check out: BP Slick: CREEKKEEPER appears on Olberman. The BP Gulf Disaster must be followed up on closely. I'm calling my Congress critter again today and repeating that BP must stop using the dispersants which only add to the poison and the coverup.

We must face what our love of oil has wrought and do much-needed activist penance. Pray God that we can get this oil gusher stopped soon. Much work to be done. Please do what YOU can. Call. Donate. Write letters to editors. Blog. Talk to others. Act!

MSNBC's Rachel Maddow - Prof. Riki Ott: the health threat to Gulf Oil...

The health concerns mount for people in the areas where the oil from the Gulf Oil Gusher a/k/a oil spill (too slight of a word). This interview of Professor Riki Ott by Rachel Maddow is one which people must note and act upon. Legislators and President Obama must be contacted to move on more protection for workers and residents alike. BP cannot be allowed to trivialize this.

Earth Hour and Twitter and Air America

As we get ready for Earth Hour 2009 --please make a powerful statement by powering down this Saturday, 8:30 pm - 9:30 pm -- I've been listening to Ron Reagan Jr. and Richard Greene speak about Twitter on Air America Radio. Ron is hesitant. Richard is diving in. Let's be adventurous and use Twitter as a positive organization and social tool, guys!

Richard Greene also interviewed someone from ElectromagneticHealth.org -- She made me more aware but the info gave me a headache. We are being bombarded by cell phone and wi-fi waves, especially here in NYC. Well, maybe we stopped one building in Queens Community Board 2 from hosting a rooftop of cell phone towers. We voted it down! (Did Bloomberg let 'em go ahead anyway. Must check with CB2 office.)

Earth Hour: March 28, 8:30-9:30 PM

VOTE EARTH! Watch, then go to EarthHour.org OR EarthHourUS.org to register for THIS year's Earth Hour, March 28, from 8:30 to 9:30 pm. Commit to turn off lights (and as much electricity as feasible) for just one hour to make a statement. Other action ideas are suggested including following EarthHour and EarthHourUS on Twitter and joining the FaceBook page(s). And like Earth Day making everyday Earthday, let's make every hour Earth Hour by saving as much electricity as possible and by going as green as possible.

P.S. New York City is not listed as a sponsor/supporter, sigh, though a number of US cities have joined this international effort. FYI, there is an alternate intertwined site, VoteEarth2009.org.

Stopping Direct Mail

Reduce-Reuse-Recycle: The environmentalists' mantra. Junk mail is a challenge and so are junk mail sites. Excuse me, direct mail sites. When you have some time, if your mail is like mine and cause for your postal carrier's chiropractic care, wend your way through the Direct Marketing Association's Mail Preference Service site. Tip of the hat to Jim Hightower's Hightower Lowdown newsletter who checks it before sharing names with "friendly organizations". While any friend of Jim's is probably a likely friend of mine, my mail runneth over and I'm tired of killing trees. Check out DMAchoice.org or write them at PO Box 643, Carmel, NY 10512.
