I was happy to join with other volunteers to make calls to Ohio in support of President Obama and Senator Sherrod Brown. Tony Smolenski (seen here with me) was one of the energetic organizers. I was so impressed with Tony and his great team. I truly enjoyed calling and spoke with some great folks. The photo here is from my Sunday stint at the Long Island City, NY, office but I worked about 8.5 hours (following voting in Sunnyside, which took over 70 minutes -- a record!) on Election Day. Welcome, Elena Mary!

Congratulations to my nephew Christopher and his wife Ellie on the birth of their baby daughter, Elena Mary: Born on Friday, July 29th at 5:59 pm EDT, 6 lbs 13 ozs, 20 3/4 inches and a full head of black hair. Can't wait to meet her and see big brother Marco in person!

Cecile Richards, the head of Planned Parenthood, addressed the crowd gathered at Foley Square in NYC on Feb. 26, 2011, in support of PPFA and its funding. For many, Planned Parenthood provides their only access to healthcare. Planned Parenthood positively benefits so many lives. Its funding is essential.

Beautiful energy, spirit, and hope in this mass of people marching together for a Free Egypt over 42nd Street by Bryant Park and the NY Library (right)-- NYC March with the People of Egypt, Time Square to the Egyptian mission at 44th and Second Ave; Feb 4, 2011. Joining them after work was a small effort compared to theirs. Bless them in their effort to stay non-violent in the face of an abusive government. Kate and Agatha

Agatha has been a friend and a joy in my life but will be leaving town soon to be closer to family in Florida. I had to commemorate her with some final pictures. My nose is slightly red for a few tears but Agatha looks great so no biggy. Hugs to Agatha. You are sent off with love but you will be missed by your All Saints' family. (Thank God and the US Post Office for snail mail.)

It took my son and his friends being in town for the Porcupine Tree concert at Radio City Music Hall for me to finally get to see the Imagine mosaic at Strawberry Fields in Central Park. How New York of me! Had to play tourist with my visitors :) FYI -- it is close to the Dakota where John Lennon lived. Enter Central Park at 72nd and Central Park West. Veer a little to the left and follow the crowd. (Great Porcupine Tree concert btw.)

With a flu bug taking grip, despite flu shot, Val from Atlanta answered my request for vegetarian chicken soup: "Take a basic veggie stock and add cayenne pepper, basil, ginger root, lemon peel, sauteed garlic (or roasted), let it steep until all things are 'married.' Top with organic apple cider vinegar.Drink a cup of this warm broth every two hours." Had to settle for ginger powder [my ginger root looking like a voodoo head], and a little cilantro called to me. But it has truly helped. So will time.
