It was posted to YouTube in October of 2010 but is so appropriate to what is going on now politically. Do yourself a favor and watch and share this. Maybe we'll wake up enough people to stave off the Republicans in November.

In Words That Don’t Work George Lakoff talks about the importance of the Progressives [a/k/a Liberals!] using our OWN frames and NOT those put out by Frank Luntz for the GOP / Koch Brothers / Rightists. When we use the other guys' frames, we lose. [For example, they use Luntz's "death tax" instead of inheritance tax -- don't YOU ever use it!]

Progressives have a basic morality, which is largely unspoken. It has to be spoken, over and over, in every corner of our country. Progressives need to be both thinking and talking about their view of a moral Democracy, about how a robust Public is necessary for private success, about all that the Public gives us, about the benefits of health, about a Market for All not a Greed Market, about regulation as protection, about revenue and investment...

The Occupy Wall Street folk are emphasizing how we need an economy that works not just for the 1%, but also for the 99%, in essence then the 100% that Deepak Chopra talks about. We need a better world for ALL of us. Words can help heal. Read this article and use them wisely.

It features members of the 99% being arrested for requesting to close their Citibank accounts, including one young woman who was dragged back into the bank by NYPD to be arrested. -- NOT so fine, New York's Finest! -- AFTER I found it on YouTube's nicadyme's channel, blogger extraordinaire Ms. ToniD at BlueRootsRadio.com posted a reference to it via blogger The Agonist (Sean Paul Kelley)'s excellent analysis. Was drawn into the Political and Electoral Reform working group moderated by Jack Rabbit and Tim and had hoped to return last night but work intervened. I bless those who can just drop everything and go down there. Have pix but need to find time to post them. Must be off on new day but must tell you it WAS a great energy to be down at Liberty Square / Liberty Plaza (I've heard both used) -- Dr. Helen Caldicott and Jeff Madrick spoke to the Sunday evening GA: awesome. (I was wearing a green sweatshirt with an orange cat on it WITH political buttons if you see some older lady in any photos fyi.)

Dear Speaker Boehner,

Republicans promised jobs, ran on it in 2010, and still we allow companies tax breaks for shipping jobs out of the country while more and more of us US citizens remain jobless. We need more good paying US jobs, not just McDonalds or Walmart jobs. HELP, Please introduce legislation that will promote middle class good paying jobs HERE in the USA. Things are getting desperate for lots of people and we do NOT want any riots in our streets. Maybe it is time for a US jobs program. (Our infrastructure needs a serious face lift, too.) Please remember your promise and provide JOBS.

Behind Tea Party lie Koch bros, Rupert Murdoch, & other right-wing billionaires bent on destroying US economy and removing O from office.

All stock gains of 2011 wiped out because debt deal has made it almost impossible for govt to boost economy. Beware Friday's job numbers.

The radical right has won a huge tactical and strategic victory. Democrats have proven they have no tactics and no strategy.

Anyone who characterizes the debt-ceiling deal as a victory for the Am people over partisanship understands neither politics nor economics.

The Am public will not blame Rs for the coming double-dip jobs recession, because the deal over the debt ceiling implicates the Ds as well.

It is not the case that "both sides" gave up "sacred cows." Rs linked the debt ceiling to their demand for smaller govt. They've got it.

The heinous deal is preferable to economic catastrophe. The outrage and shame is it has come to this choice.

The hostage crisis may be over but the US economy will now suffer insufficient demand and a govt incapable of boosting it.

Ds can no longer campaign on R's desire to Medicare and Soc Security, now that O has agreed it . A tactical and strategic defeat for Ds.

Defining the problem is 95 percent of the battle in Washington. O and D's have let GOP define the problem as the nation's debt.

No tax increases on rich yet almost certain cuts in Med and Social Security, and deficit cuts when joblessness is soaring. An insane deal.

If we restore jobs and growth, the ratio of debt to GDP drops, and the so-called "debt crisis" improves. If we don't, the opposite occurs.

All this talk about shared sacrifice to balance budget diverts attention from biggest issue -- getting Ams back to work & restoring growth.

ToniD's Italian Fritata

Some friends have requested some zucchini recipes and voila, BlueRootsRadio.com's news editor extraordinaire ToniD posted an awesome sounding Italian Fritata. You ought to go check out the BRR blog, but let's also repost it here.

Everyone is talking cooking. So for dinner tonight I made myself a Fritata, Italian Omelet.

Sliced zucchini, baby portabella mushrooms, chopped tomatoes, sauteed in Olive Oil with a pat of butter for taste, spices are oregano, garlic powder, pepper, and pepper flakes, Enough eggs beaten to make a thick fritata after veggies are sauteed. Sprinkle with grated Italian cheese of your choice. Cover and cook on medium heat until eggs are cooked. Slice pizza style and serve.

Spinach Fritatas are good also.

If you have an oven safe pan, you can finish it in the oven. The eggs will rise more if you do that.

Then one of our fellow BRR bloggers, 60th Street, posted his similar meat version. Maybe you'd like to combine the two versions (red or green peppers, yes, but forget the meat for me):

@toniD: I had one of those for breakfast, this afternoon, only scrambled.

I used a lot of the same ingredients. Mine was sauteed zucc, onion, baby portabellas, red peppers in olive oil. Then I threw that in and scrambled it with 3 eggs, a crumbled corn tortilla, chopped turkey and pepperoni, italian seasoning, cajun seasoning, salt and pepper.

Ate with a side of buttered multigrain toast and a tall glass of V8

Hangover breakfasts are awesome!

Breakfast Recipe: Avocado Toast

Take a soft Hass avocado, add lemon juice, mix until smooth. Spread on tasty (whole wheat) toast, add slices of good Farmers' Market or CSA radish and a teeny bit of salt. ENJOY.

This is much healthier than butter and oh so yummy with a bit of crunch! Don't remember where I got it last year but certainly do NOT wish to lose this awesome recipe.

America's Senator Bernie Sanders has followed up his hour and a half Senate Speech with a Letter to the President which YOU can sign. Join 98,464 others [current signature tally] and tell the President that we want TRUE Shared Sacrifice. Do not give in to Republican terrorism. Stand firm for the 90% of Americans who are NOT making it in today's economy. Furthermore, in Bernie's words:

...Mr. President, please listen to the overwhelming majority of the American people who believe that deficit reduction must be about shared sacrifice. The wealthiest Americans and the most profitable corporations in this country must pay their fair share. At least 50 percent of any deficit reduction package must come from revenue raised by ending tax breaks for the wealthy and eliminating tax loopholes that benefit large, profitable corporations and Wall Street financial institutions. A sensible deficit reduction package must also include significant cuts to unnecessary and wasteful Pentagon spending....Now is the time to stand with the tens of millions of Americans who are struggling to survive economically, not with the millionaires and billionaires who have never had it so good.

It is much easier to sign a Letter to the President then to have to hit the streets if the GOP have their way and massacre our 20th century Social Programs legacy.

I listened to this album a lot then, and hearing those songs still reminds me of that time. The album really spoke to me, and this song in particular, given how I was feeling then.

Explaining Wisconsin, a FB comment repost

The governor and Republican legislators are not dictators and Wisconsin has a long labor history. What is happening in Wisconsin and Ohio, etc., most likely follows what was decided at the recent Koch weekend meetings. Kill the one supporter of the middle class working people and make it easier for Republicans to win. Meanwhile wi-fi has just been shut down in Wisconsin capitol area. And per Mike Elk the AFL CIO is debating releasing a poll done by Stan Greenberg showing Scott Walker's approval dropping by 20% in last week (from 58%). Over-reaching has its effects. The last election was colored by the outrageous Citizens United vs FEC decision allowing unregulated money to shower on elections (more over-reaching). People elected are supposed to represent the people not dictate. If Wisconsin plays out the way the governor wants welcome to the American oligarchy. The Democratic legislators follow in the tradition of Abraham Lincoln in escaping a very undemocratic vote in order to better represent the will of the people. (Lincoln escaped through a window.)

[And Republicans who protest about Walker/GOP being allowed to follow the will of the people who voted them in do not see the irony of their own impeding of the agenda / will of the people who voted for Obama and Democrats in 2008.]

If we don't vote on November 2, everyone loses indeed. Watch the video and think about it. It we don't have our say in who wins than democracy loses. There is a lot of work that has to go on before and after the election. Having good people in there, or even reasonable people in there will make our lives a lot less difficult. Please vote on November 2nd and keep working for a better more peace-full compassionate country, a we society not a me society. Thanks!

Agatha has been a friend and a joy in my life but will be leaving town soon to be closer to family in Florida. I had to commemorate her with some final pictures. My nose is slightly red for a few tears but Agatha looks great so no biggy. Hugs to Agatha. You are sent off with love but you will be missed by your All Saints' family. (Thank God and the US Post Office for snail mail.)

Author and radio/TV host Thom Hartmann was in Baraboo, WI, earlier this month for the 9th Annual Fighting Bob Fest. Couldn't be there in person but have been seeking a video and have found it, thanks to Karen, YouTube.com's user OnTheEarthProduction -- also with a website to bookmark: On the Earth Productions. (Good stuff!) Thom's talk dealt with corporate personhood, how it was based on a headnote that was NOT in the judges ruling (the 1886 Santa Clara County vs. Southern Pacific Railrood decision), and the importance of action to restore what's left of our democracy. We need to negate the effects of the recent outrageous extremist Citizens United decision. Tell our congress critters that we want them to add the word NATURAL before person in the 14th amendment of the constitution. (See MoveToAmend.org)

It took my son and his friends being in town for the Porcupine Tree concert at Radio City Music Hall for me to finally get to see the Imagine mosaic at Strawberry Fields in Central Park. How New York of me! Had to play tourist with my visitors :) FYI -- it is close to the Dakota where John Lennon lived. Enter Central Park at 72nd and Central Park West. Veer a little to the left and follow the crowd. (Great Porcupine Tree concert btw.)

Deregulation

Senator Bernie Sanders astutely asks questions about deregulation of Jacob Lew, the president's nominee to head the White House Office of Management and Budget. Despite his questionable response to the deregulation question during the hearing of the Senate Budget Committee, the panel unanimously voted to confirm him. Go figure, but Lew, a former Citigroup executive, did serve under Clinton who ran a budget surplus. Whether this helps remains to be seen, but at least Bernie asked the hard questions.

My voting experience: Scanners Down!

Got to cast my primary vote, literally, at my new old site, Queen of Angels Center on Skillman in Sunnyside. Our lever machines are gone. We've got a scanning system, which worked, sort-of. There were lots of empty privacy booths when I voted. But when I collected my ballot, I was offered a privacy folder (for the actual casting into the scanner) only after I requested it. (I had watched the instruction video.) I walked to the scanners and found that they were BOTH down. Site supervisor Richard Drake said neither machine would boot up, whether plugged in or with the battery. Perhaps the batteries were upside down, he suggested, a rumor he had heard. The good news is I could deposit it in the emergency slot in the scanner where the ballots would be handcounted later, under watchful eyes: THE BEST MOST VERIABLE WAY.

The Majestic Plastic Bag - A Mockumentary

Hope you like me are mostly using re-useable bags instead of plastic bags. This beautifully done four minute video mockumentary tells a lot, providing much impetus for reducing, reusing, and recyling. Found it thanks to the Wondering Rose blog, where I had landed thanks to author Anne Rice and the saintly Sister Margaret McBride [more on them in another blog post, most likely].

Do you know how many plastic bags are used each year just in California? 19 billion. That’s Nineteen BILLION! Of which only about 5% are recycled. Most of the bags, like the plastic bottles (which I wrote about in my earth day post on April 22 2010) end up in the Great Pacific Garbage patch ~~ Roseanne Freed, Wondering Rose

Target Ain't People

Thanks to the Citizens United Supreme Court decision, corporations are allowed to pour even more cash into our elections and they are not even having to identify themselves. In the case of Target, a Minnesota law forced them to 'fess up. Target is only one -- we must get off our rears and re-claim our democracy. It is We the PEOPLE and not We the corporations!!!! Francis's Crowd Pleasing German Potato Salad

(When my dad gave this recipe to me years ago he neglected to put the amount of potatoes but he was making it for a family gathering so I think it was probably a five pound bag of potatoes, perhaps more, leave me a msg if you figure it out.)

Cook potatoes with skins in salted cold water. Cool-peel-cube.

1 quart of water
6 T cornstarch
1 C vinegar
6 t sugar or to pleasant sweetness

Onion larger than a golf ball, chopped very fine
Salt & pepper to taste

3/4 # of bacon chopped 1/2 " across, sauteed to pleasing brown, stirring occasionally till done. Remove bacon and set aside. To bacon fat add water mixed with corn starch, vinegar, etc. Heat for thickening. Add onions to cubed potatoes. Then add thickened sauce to potato mixture and stir lightly till well mixed. Heat slightly before serving. Add bacon and serve.

My dad would make the above and place it in a yellow insulated covered serving container and take it to family picnics and get raves. I no longer eat meat and I miss this salad. The memories, though, I still have. I give the recipe as promised to my bacon eating kids and friends.

Zucchini with Cilantro and Garlic: yum!

A fellow CSA friend told me she made a zucchini and cilantro soup -- don't have her recipe (yet) but got great results taking her idea and adding a handful of cilantro to my microwaved sliced organic zucchini (with a little water, butter, and dash of sea salt)-- this last time I added garlic: yummy. I imagine I could have pureed it and gotten a great soup because you certainly want to enjoy the buttery zucchini water. Maybe next time. In the meantime, my share partner gave me the lion's share of our box: 11 pounds of vegetables and fruit. Hey, neighbor, ya wanna zucchini, heh heh! [Is this a throwback to PRETZELS, a musical review by Jane Curtin and Fred Grande that I was in way back when? -- It may be.]

Hayes and reason for follow-up: Wealthy people strategically walk away from underwater mortgages [when a homeowner owes more than the place is worth] but big banks want to force the rest of us to sink or swim in deep water and pay up so they can make money on OUR backs. John L. Wathen and his videos of the ravaged Gulf, including affected wildlife, brought me to tears as I watched the podcast of Keith Olbermann's Countdown. Heavy stuff that must be seen and acted upon. PLEASE check out: BP Slick: CREEKKEEPER appears on Olberman. The BP Gulf Disaster must be followed up on closely. I'm calling my Congress critter again today and repeating that BP must stop using the dispersants which only add to the poison and the coverup.

We must face what our love of oil has wrought and do much-needed activist penance. Pray God that we can get this oil gusher stopped soon. Much work to be done. Please do what YOU can. Call. Donate. Write letters to editors. Blog. Talk to others. Act!

This interview of Professor Riki Ott by Rachel Maddow is one which people must note and act upon. Legislators and President Obama must be contacted to move on more protection for workers and residents alike. BP cannot be allowed to trivialize this.

Papantonio: BP - The Manslaughter Felon

Mike Papantonio of Ring of Fire Radio discusses the history of BP and Halliburton, including their past as convicted felons. These two felons are responsible for the oil spill that is dumping millions of gallons of oil into the Gulf of Mexico, and we're supposed to expect them to tell us the truth about what happened? Given their histories, that seems highly unlikely.

Can we also talk eco-terrorism here? When are we going to properly penalize for corporate crimes? To be sure, folks are in US jails for a long time for a lot less. I'm happy to add my voice to Shannyn Moore's chorus, "Jail, Baby, Jail!"

Oil Spill Begins To Wash Ashore

This video attests to the oil slick moving ashore AND to disbursement chemicals being used and "hiding" the oil. (How much remains broken up so as to be less visual, but present in tiny molecules?) So the people, fish, and birds have to contend with both oil and chemicals -- what are these chemicals? What is the short term and long term effects and what will BP do about it going forwards as it privatizes its profits and socializes most of their cleanup costs -- $750 million will not go very far, especially with oil still gushing. Is this America's Chernobyl?

On Cindy Sheehan and a Cold-hearted Cop

Cindy Sheehan was arrested this past weekend at the ANSWER march in Washington, DC. [Not well attended but ANSWER is more anti-war than pro-peace and their events do not feed my spirit -- but that is something to blog about at PeaceHugs.com one of these days.] She wrote eloquently of her experience of Civil Disobedience by the White House but her UPDATE, particularly affected me:

UPDATE: Three of us went to pick up our property this morning at the Park Police station and as we were being jacked around, an officer named Thomas (Badge number 628) told me that if I “stopped getting arrested” I wouldn’t have to go through all of this.

I said: “when the wars stop, I will stop.” He actually then told me: “The wars will stop when we nuke them and take their oil.”

I wonder why they are called “pigs.”

An upset Cindy put it differently than I would, but certainly Thomas of Badge number 628 is a disgrace and should be dismissed from the force. He dishonors the Men and Women in Blue, most of whom I want/need to believe are NOT pigs. And actually, come to think of it, PIGS are sweet and intelligent critters -- not like the disgraceful Thomas of Badge number 628.
